The Next Generation

Good morning pie lovers!

Have you ever wondered what happens when  the first generation of any business retires or for other reasons doesn't work any more? Well sometimes it's not a good thing. The business ends up going into the hands of someone who really doesn't want a part of it, and then it eventually does not have a good ending. But, Kemmy's Pies is definitely prepared for the future! The granddaughters of Kemmy, assure us everyday that they want to make pies when they are older. Hope that passion stays in there hearts forever. How amazing is it that we have an eight year old and 5 year old that already know how to make a pie all by them self? Well its obvious they don't cook it by themselves but, they know how to prepare it for the oven. I think each one of Kemmy's children and grandchildren have the special gift of making beautiful pies.

At first, we decided only to pick one winner, but after we kept picking, we got to three!

I want to to get on the subject of the Kemmy's Pies website and blog. Many of you come and view our website, read the blogs, but you must miss the sign where it says follow the blog? Well it's not that hard, you'll get reminders of when the most recent blog has been posted and you will be on our emailing list! Right when you come to the page, there is a little link that says "join this sight" and when you click on it, they give you three options for log in; Google, Twitter and Yahoo.  A special thanks to, Cynthia Raiser Jeavons for taking the beautiful pictures of our pies, she has a truly talented gift and we are very satisfied with the amazing pictures she has taken! I mean look at these? They just make your mouth water, wondering of what the taste is in our pie. I know it does for me!

On the sixteenth of July, the French cultural exchange will take place at the ballet! The girl I stayed with when I went to France, and all the other girls I met will be coming to dance with us! I am so excited. You don't even know the half of it! Camille (the girl I stayed with in France) will come and stay in my home for ten days. We will dance everyday, and it's just going to be a blast! Thank you Trudy McCreanor for giving me all these wonderful opportunities!

I'm Back!

Good Morning Pie Lovers!

Hi everyone. It's Natalie again. Yes, I'm back, did you miss me? Well I missed writing this blog everyday. But frankly, it was sort of impossible to write it with all of my other activities and school. I just recently graduated 8th Grade from The Waldorf School of Mendocino County.Words cannot described how thankful I am to have had this opportunity to attend that school. I have learned so much there, and I have grown so much from the beginning of the year. At the start of the year I could barely do Jr. high math and simple art work. But I am very proud of how hard I worked this year, because it truly has been worth every hour I spent stressing on things. And let me tell you, 8th Grade at Waldorf wasn't the easiest year. There were so many times that I struggled with big projects but my teacher always helped me with everything and encouraged me never to give up. For the big field trip of the year, we went to Utah! Moab, Utah, where all the popular National Parks are. Basically, we went camping, outside for 9 days. We had tour guides, and the guides made us food, we went to Arches National Park, and Canyonlands National Park. It was the trip of a lifetime. We hiked everyday and the sights we saw were absolutely breath taking. I think it is the kind of place that you have to go, and see for yourself, pictures do not give this place justice. I am going to miss each and every person I met at the school this year, and if any of you are reading...I love all of you and I am really sad I left!
The Delicate Arch, in Arches National Park

So many new and exciting things have happened in this year. Disappointments to wonderful blessings. We are all thankful for every good and bad thing that has happened this year.

Now onto the main attraction PIE:

Last Tuesday, Taste of Mendocino was held at the famous Presidio in San Francisco. The venue was absolutely gorgeous, and Kemmy's Pies met many new fans at this event. Unfortunately, towards the end, Jill and Brenda had a little too much to drink. Maybe little is an understatement. After all, it was a wine and beer event.  We found many new types of wines, for options to be in our pies, and I can't wait to start experimenting!

If any of you haven't read the latest post on our blog, it is introducing the newest the newest addition to our menu, "Lemonade. " A combination of eggs, fresh squeezed lemon juice, and of course our classic ingredient; sugar. Simple ingredients are always what gives you the wonderful trusted knowledge to know that it will taste good, actually not just good, AMAZING. I mean when have any of our pies tasted gross? Well I'm sure that has happened with mistakes in the baking area, but not in the ingredients area. Hope you all go over to your local store and pick one up! You'll love it!
So any fans reading from out of states? Well if you are, its your lucky day! We have mail order now! The pies still turn out beautiful, no matter what state you are from. So if you are wondering if our pies are good or not, visit our website, for choices on flavors and prices at http://www.kemmyspies.com/.

Still going on with the main pattern:

Pie of the month: Lemonade

Movie of the month: Now You See Me

Song of the month: Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

Looking for summer recipes? Suggested from Brenda:
Your favorite choice and brand of Vanilla ice cream, topped with the tasteful Frey Vineyards Late Harvest Zen.
Even though I am not yet old enough to try it, I am going to trust Brenda's instinct and say that it is probably delicious!!

Blackberries!

Hello my pie peeps!

I was wondering if any of you knew of the history of a blackberry? Well some of you may and others maybe not! The blackberry is an edible fruit produced by Rubus fruticosus or any of several hybrids between that species and others of Rubus genus in the Rosaceae family. The term ‘bramble’, a word meaning any impenetrable scrub, has traditionally been applied specifically to the blackberry or its products, though in the United States it applies to all members of the Rubus genus. The (usually) black fruit is not a true berry; botanically it is termed an aggregate fruit, composed of small drupelets. It is a widespread and well-known group of over 375 species, many of which are closely related apomictic microspecies native throughout the temperate Northern Hemisphere and South America. Some of these words you probably can’t understand but I wanted to share what kind of fruit the Blackberry is.

The so-called blackberries here in Northern CA, are actually Himalayan blackberries, which are a naturalized European import. They were first introduced to the Pacific Northwest as a crop plant in the 1800's, and have since invaded areas of the region. They are highly invasive, nearly impossible to control, in the pastures, along roadsides and creek banks. They can even be found growing through the cracks in pavement. They overtake native understory vegetation and prevent the establishment of native plants and trees. Their large, impenetrable thickets can block wildlife access to water and other resources. True native blackberries are a much less common sight. The plants are more compact and less invasive. They bear fruit earlier in the season, than the Himalayan's, and usually stop fruiting around the time the Himalayans are starting. Himalayan blackberries are much larger and jucier than natives and the fruit is readily visible on the plants, whereas native berries are smaller, and more hidden by the plant's leaves.
With blackberries being so plentiful here it's hard to understand why anyone would want to plant them. Anyone planning to plant blackberries in the Pacific Northwest should choose the variety carefully, or else run the risk of creating a monster in your garden, and possibly your whole neighborhood. I read lot's of cool stuff about our blackberries, in an article from Dave's Garden(;

In other news...Katie sold her chickens at the fair! She loved the experience so much that she has decided to show a pig next year.

Soo excited for school to start this Wednesday! I am so thankful for the opportunity to attend Waldorf of Mendocino County! This is going to be such an amazing year for me.

Fun Fact for the day: Did any of you know that the first pie invented was the Apple Pie? Yep, the first one made was in 1381, by Geoffrey Chaucer!

Song of the day: Lights by Ellie Goulding

Movie of the day: Bourne Legacy

Another Friday in the kitchen of Kemmy's Pies!

Good morning my pie peeps!!(:
So has anybody tried our new pie yet? If you did tell us what you think by clicking the comment box below my blog.
Kemmy's Kitchen has finally gone from working 3 days a week to working 5 days a week. I mean, wow I'm gone for a month and come back to see the kitchen running all the time. Have you noticed all of the new stores selling Kemmy's Pies? They have nearly stopped catering completely, with only a few parties here and there for the customers they have already served in the past. I think my mom and sisters have finally come to the realization that there just isn't enough time in the week to do everything! So, its just Kemmy's Pies available for now.
Summer is very interesting here in Willits, CA. Somedays its overcast, and others its 78 degrees, or 98 degrees. Mornings here are pretty cold normally around 52 degrees. Freaky right? But when it is hot we go to the river or go paddle boarding, in Fort Bragg! I mean who wears Uggs, Sweatshirt, and jeans, in the end of July?
Me and Amy are going to Exeter this weekend to deliver pies and visit my grandparents. Just another adventure in our amazing non-boring life!
Last weekend when we were in Fort Bragg, my Mom was walking around the beach and well she came across these people that were far away from their car because their boat had capsized. So my Mom offered to take them to their motel. Anyways, long story short one of the ladies ended up being the most sought after divorce-lawyer in Beverly Hills, and had just finished the 35 hour case with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes! If that isn’t cool than I don’t what is!!Haha
Short blog today hope you like it!!

Lots of news(:

 Good morning my pie peeps!(:
To start off I am terribly sorry I haven’t written a blog in well...it seems like forever!!
Things have been crazy and gone bonkers since I have been away!
For a month now I have been vacationing at Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, Arkansas. My sister, Becky lives there and I am soo thankful she welcomed me into her home! We had an amazing time. Some of you might know that Hot Springs, Arkansas is the home of our great leader, President Clinton! I got to meet a guy named Morgan. His Dad opened a restaurant about 3 weeks ago, and well half of the restaurant was Chelsea Clinton’s old ballet studio! I think that’s pretty sick, don’t you? There are also natural Hot Springs all around the town, like the fountains are steaming hot! I had a blast with Becky and her family!!!
In the mean time my sister, Katie has raised 2 chickens for her FFA class, and will be showing them at Redwood Empire Fair! Wow, I never thought she would do that! Lol, so if you know anyone in the market to purchase two chickens raised with lots of love, she will be showing them at the fair next Wednesday.
Kemmy’s newest “Kreation” is....Pear-Onnay, pronounced like pears and chardonnay! It has wonderful Chardonnay from our local Frey Vineyards, accompanied with Asiago Cheese, and amazing juicy pears! This experience is seriously life changing! Not joking...lol
I have enclosed a little picture of me and my sister Becky. Hope you like it!
